Whitney Houston’s Family demands apology from Kanye

IMG_20180528_193746_157

#PushaT’s #Daytona has been a hot topic in Hip-Hop since its release on Friday. With conversations ranging from immaculate flows to #Drake disses, the G.O.O.D. Music emcee has harnassed the conversation, however, the most controversial may be his album artwork.

For those catching up on the news, #Kanye West purchased the photo of #WhitneyHouston’s hotel bathroom for $85,000 as a last minute cover switch. The immediate family of the late singer has shared they are hurt by the decision, which shows the counter covered in drug paraphernalia and drug covered spoons.

According to People, Damion Elliot, cousin of Houston, was alerted about the artwork from his daughter who was upset at its use. “She sent me this picture from the album cover and I immediately got sick to my stomach because it took me right back to six years ago,” says Elliot.

Elliot also spoke on Kanye’s current “train wreck” but stated that he did not believe the actions of Kanye would go beyond his own issues to harm someone else’s family.

“To do something for a publicity stunt to sell records, it’s absolutely disgusting,” Eliott shared. “It hurt my family and my daughter. It’s petty. It’s tacky.”

Elliott also shared that while he has not heard from Whitney’s mother in regards to the photo, he did attempt to warn his own, Dionne Warwick. Elliott and the family want an apology from Kanye and a switch of album art. But after an $85,000 price tag that may be a distant request.

Drake might be lightskinned and he may be “corny”, to some people; but what he isn’t is afraid to clapback!

Michael B. Jordan Reposted A Music Video Praising Black Women And It Went All The Way Left

Tons of women love them some Michael B. Jordan, and a recent Instagram post by the Fahrenheit 451 actor indicates that when it comes to black women in particular, the feeling is mutual — but not everyone is convinced.

On Tuesday, May 15, Jordan expressed his love for black women to his nearly 6.5 million Instagram followers by posting the music video for rapper Nick Grant‘s latest single “Black Woman” which pays homage to the cocoa butter and honey-fused goddesses.

My bruh @nickgrantmusic w/ that new heat 🔥🔥🔥🔥#blackwoman

A post shared by Michael B. Jordan (@michaelbjordan) on

“My bruh @nickgrantmusic w/ that new heat #blackwoman,” Jordan wrote in his caption.

While you would think the post would be met with the same energy, surprisingly it was not. Many began to question whether Michael B. Jordan even romantically involves himself with the women he is praising.

“[Where] is your lame girl Ashtray? Nah don’t be making $$ off of us,” someone wrote referencing reports that tied the actor to model Ashlyn Castro. “We already know you like dating teenage white girls…you ain’t slick.”

“Lmao I respect you as an actor and love your work, but we all know this post is just another attempt to pander to Black women,” another spectator wrote. “If you truly cared about us, there’ll be no need to state that in every interview. It’s like you’re trying to prove something to yourself. Anyway, comments didn’t disappoint. Glad that ladies see through [it].”

This debate is nothing new. In fact, it has been going on for years.

Deadly Chinese Fentanyl Is Creating a New Era of Drug Kingpins

The opioid’s potency has transformed the global trafficking — and policing — of narcotics.

Outside the gates of a residential complex called Oak Bay, a construction frenzy tears up the central Chinese city of Wuhan, a metropolis of 11 million racing to catch up with Beijing and Shanghai. The aural assault of jackhammers and cement trucks fades at the walls of the complex. Inside, a leafy oasis of manicured grounds and winding red-brick walkways draws out residents for early morning tai chi sessions near the banks of the Yangtze River.

Among the 5,000 apartments, on a high-rise’s 20th floor, lives Yan Xiaobing, a chemicals distributor with short, spiky hair. His wife, Hu Qi, operates an English tutoring business. Their social-media feed shows the couple and their two young children under blue skies at the beach and posing at landmarks in Europe and Japan. One photo shows Yan reading to pupils in a classroom.

In half-frame glasses, blue plastic house slippers and button-down shirt, Yan could have passed as an ordinary office worker when Bloomberg News reporters found him late last year. Filling the apartment doorway with his 6-foot frame, he expressed soft-spoken bafflement at the portrait the U.S. Justice Department paints of him: not a modest businessman, but a new type of international drug dealer. “This is horrifying,” he said. “Their investigation must have gone wrong.”

Federal prosecutors in Mississippi charged Yan, 41, in September with leading an empire built on the manufacture and sale of drugs related to fentanyl, one of the world’s deadliest and most profitable narcotics. So strong that it’s been studied as a chemical weapon, the drug has saturated American streets with breathtaking speed: It kills more people than any other opioid, including prescription pills and heroin, because it’s so easy to overdose. Authorities say they have linked Yan and his 9W Technology Co. to more than 100 distributors across the U.S. and at least 20 other countries. Investigators expect scores of arrests as they dismantle his alleged network.

A month after the indictment, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein held a Washington news conference to shine a spotlight on Yan and another man, Zhang Jian, 39, who’s accused of a similar scheme. Their indictments, Rosenstein told reporters, marked “a major milestone in our battle to stop deadly fentanyl from reaching the United States.”

Yan is the first Chinese national the U.S. has ever added to its “consolidated priority organization target” list of individuals thought to command the world’s most prolific drug-trafficking and money-laundering networks. Investigators say his strategy was to offer fentanyl-like compounds called analogues — which differ slightly on a molecular level but produce similar effects — in order to exploit discrepancies between the laws in the U.S. and China. Rosenstein expressed optimism that his Chinese counterparts would hold Yan accountable.

But if Yan doesn’t resemble a stereotypical drug lord, neither is fentanyl your average drug. It has upended how traffickers conduct business and how such activity gets policed. Bloomberg News examined hundreds of pages of court documents and government reports and interviewed drug dealers and law officers, retracing a byzantine path that took investigators from a Mississippi parking lot all the way to Wuhan.

People are threatening to boycott Netflix after the Obamas signed a deal with the streaming service

  • Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce original shows.
  • The conservative backlash on social media has already begun.
  • Some are threatening to cancel their Netflix subscriptions over the news.
  • It’s not the first time: In March, many conservatives were outraged when former UN Ambassador Susan Rice joined Netflix’s board of directors.

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have signed a deal with Netflix to produce original TV shows and movies, and the conservative backlash against the streaming service has already started.

Though Obama associates have said it’s unlikely for the Netflix programs to be overtly partisan, there are still plenty of people who have taken to social media to voice their displeasure with the news – even threaten to cancel their Netflix subscriptions.

It’s not the first time Netflix has faced conservative backlash like this. In March, Obama-era UN Ambassador Susan Rice joined the Netflix board of directors. Some subscribers were outraged because of inaccurate statements Rice made in 2012 after the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has also been critical of President Donald Trump in the past. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Hastings endorsed Hillary Clinton and said that “Trump would destroy much of what is great about America.”

Below are some examples of backlash to the news on Twitter:
