Jay-Z says Frank Ocean “has some of the best music that we’ve ever heard”

Ocean has reportedly been “shopping” his next album to various labels

Jay-Z and Frank Ocean at the Grammys

Jay-Z has declared his appreciation for the unique artistry of Frank Ocean, saying the R&B trailblazer has crafted “some of the best music that we’ve ever heard”.

The comment came during Jay’s appearance in a Twitter Space hosted by Alicia Keys earlier this week (the singer was there to promote her recent eighth album, ‘KEYS’), where he also compared Beyoncé to Michael Jackson, and said there was “not a chance in hell” that someone could take him on in a VERZUZ battle.

“You know, the success has to be like Frank Ocean,” Jay said in the Space. “Now obviously, you know, he’s super popular, but I wouldn’t say that he’s playing by what were the industry rules. He’s playing by his own set of rules – he’s making music that he wants to make, and it doesn’t fit a format.

“He doesn’t have songs on there that fit pop radio or that make it [to] a billion streams; he just has music that’s better than everyone else. And that’s what has to be the goal going forwards. And I don’t want to say [he’s] better than everyone in terms of competing with music, I’m just saying, like he has some of the best music that we’ve ever heard.”

Keys echoed the praise for Ocean, vouching that he “lives in his world and goes and creates what he loves”, and that it’s clear he’s not “playing by anybody else’s rules”.

Dame Dash wants to end feud with JAY-Z following Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech

Dame Dash wants to end feud with JAY-Z following Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech

Dame Dash is ready to squash his 20-year beef with JAY-Z after the 4:44 crafter shouted him out during his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Speaking with Page Six on Monday (Nov. 1), Dash said Hov’s induction speech shoutout “was beautiful.”

“I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything,” he said. “So, hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch], I’ll spin one back. I have no beef with [him] if [he has] no beef with me. Let’s get the lawyers out of it then. Let’s talk like men, but I definitely appreciate it.”

He added, “I would never want you to think that we have to go to the court to resolve anything. We can talk it out and the culture needs to see two strong Black men working out a problem. Even if they worked together, they can go their separate ways [and] they can still be cool.”

As reported by REVOLT, JAY-Z saluted his former friend and Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder at the Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland on Saturday (Oct. 30).

“Shout out to Dame. I know we don’t see eye-to-eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments, and I appreciate you and I thank you for that,” he said.

Hov also applauded The Notorious B.I.G., adding, “He was one of the most honorable people I’ve ever met and we created something that will probably never be duplicated. I appreciate you guys. Thank you for our journey. Thank you. Thank you for your contribution to this journey.”

JAY-Z and Dash famously started Roc-A-Fella Records with Kareem “Biggs” Burke in 1995. However, the dismantling of the label ended in the former business partners’ bitter feud, most recently sparking back up again over a Reasonable Doubt NFT.

Speaking with Page Six, Dash agreed that while they “don’t see eye-to-eye,” the pair has “accomplished too much to be beefing.” He also said he’ll always consider Hov a brother and reflected on the rapper’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.

“That means I’m in the Hall of Fame,” he said, “Whether we cool or not, him getting in the Hall of Fame is major. So congratulations to us, congratulations to him and thank you [to him] for keep working so hard to where he got to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Anything he can do to make me great, so thank you for even continuing to strive. He keeps my name alive.”

JAY-Z Reveals Why He Ended His Six-Year Grammys Boycott

IMG_20180128_133441_269

“I’m gonna say a lot of things tonight, but it’s all coming from a place of honesty,” the 48-year-old rapper — who’s nominated for eight Grammysthis year — said at Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala at the Sheraton Time Square on Saturday while accepting the 2018 Salute to Industry Icons Award.

“My introduction to the Grammys were, aside from seeing them on TV and seeing Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder and all those guys inspiring [me] to do what they did, was 1998,” he continued at the Absolut Vodka-sponsored event, which the 4:44 rapper attended with his wife.
“I had an album called Vol. II. You like that album? And I was nominated for some awards,” he said, adding that “There was another guy. His name was DMX, and he had released two albums the same year, they did like 900,000…The same year, he had released two albums, and he wasn’t nominated for any Grammys.”
“I actually boycotted the Grammys that year,” JAY-Z continued, adding that he didn’t come back until 2004, “when a beautiful young lady, whom I love dearly, had a solo album, and it was the breakout — she was nominated.”
Continued the rapper, “My first time coming back, six years later, [was] for the Crazy in Love album with the beautiful Miss Beyoncé.”
JAY-Z added that part of the reason why he decided to end his boycott of the awards ceremony was because “I realized, man, all this is super subjective, and everyone’s doing their best, and the Academy—they’re human, like we are, and they’re voting on things that they like; it’s subjective. And we believe in it because we do.”
“We can pretend that we don’t care, but we really care—we care because we see the most incredible stand on those stage, and we aspire to be that. So I realized: I had to be there. That is the idea, for us to all get involved and to push this thing further,” he added.
“No matter what happens at the Grammys, it’s going to be what it is: Bob Marley‘s gonna be Bob Marley whether he’s nominated for a Grammy or not. Tupac is gonna be Tupac. Biggieis gonna be Biggie. That’s true. But in this industry, we have to… the things that we hold and we love and we treasure, that we respect, we have to get involved.

NFL responds to Jay-Z Superbowl Rumors

NFL responds to rumours of JAY-Z Super Bowl half-time show

The NFL has responded to rumours that JAY-Z has turned down an offer to perform at the 2018 Super Bowl half-time show.

It’s reported the rapper refused to do the show out of respect for Colin Kaepernick.

He’s an American footballer who refuses to stand during the US national anthem because of what he calls the oppression of people of colour in America.

JAY-Z dedicated a song to him during a New York show earlier this month.

They said: “No decisions have been made on the performer(s) and we are not going to speculate on particular artists.

“Along with Pepsi, we know that we will put on a spectacular show. When it is time to announce her name we will do it. Or his name. Or their names.”

Lady Gaga played the 2017 half-time show.

The performance was the second most-watched Super Bowl half-time show of all-time.

Next year’s Super Bowl will take place on 4 February 2018 at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Earlier this month it was reported that Britney Spears was “in talks” to perform – but the rumours were quickly denied.

“I can tell you it’s not Britney,” said Justin Toman, head of sports marketing for the Super Bowl main sponsor PepsiCo.

Kanye West, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber and Rihanna are among the other names apparently being considered for next year’s half-time show.

Jamie Foxx doesn’t want to meet Jay-Z!

IMG_20170917_123251_595.jpg

.
It’s hard to believe, but Jamie Foxx hasn’t met Jay-Z — and in fact, the Oscar winner doesn’t want to.
.
Foxx, 49, told People magazine that he’s “a little in awe of Jay-Z.”
.
And although the two shared a table at Rihanna’s Diamond Ball, which was held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York earlier this week, the two celebrities didn’t exchange pleasantries.
.
“I like to keep that mystique of him. I don’t ever want to be too close,” the actor and comedian explained. “I keep Jay-Z on a certain level.”
.
Foxx said his image of the rapper is also close to his heart because he bonded with his father, Darrell Bishop, while watching Beyonce’s husband perform. The comedian has spoken openly about his estranged relationships with his parents, having been adopted and raised by his grandparents.
.
“I took my father to see Jay-Z, not too long after 9/11… this was our first moment of bonding, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna take you see somebody, pops.’ And we watched that guy, and we had a great moment,” he recalled.

#Team216TheBeatNews …
Prodigy of Mobb Deep has died at age 42. A publicist for the group confirmed to XXL that he was found unconscious this morning and has passed away.

Mobb’s publicist sent XXL the following statement: “It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.” For his entire career, Prodigy was a master wordsmith, handling the lyrical heft for Mobb Deep while Havoc paved the way as one of New York’s premier producers. Now we will forever mourn the loss of one of the greatest rappers of all time.

We send our condolences to P’s family, friends and colleagues.
