Digital Underground rapper Shock G passes away

Tupac and Shock G | (Image: Pat Johnson/REX/Shutterstock)

On Thursday (April 22), the hip hop community was hit with yet another hard blow while it’s still mourning the deaths of Ruff Ryders legend DMX and Bad Boy recording artist Black Rob. On his Instagram, producer and Digital Underground co-founder Chopmaster J revealed that his crew member and fellow co-founder Shock G has passed away.

Posting a throwback black-and-white photo of the two, J captioned it: “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some.”

He continued: “And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

In 1987, Shock G founded Digital Underground with Chopmaster J, real name Jimi Dright; and Kenny-K, real name Kenneth Waters in The Bay. Big fans of junk bands from the 1970s, the crew’s music would be heavily influence by that era.

One person that the crew is widely known for — and the most successful star to come out from them — is Tupac. The group is actually credited by many for launching the famed rapper’s career. One of Digital Underground’s most popular singles is 1990’s “The Humpty Dance,” which was featured on their debut album titled Sex Packets.

We aren’t aware of G’s cause of his death as of yet. He was reportedly 57 years old.

Take a look at Chopmaster’s IG post revealing his passing below. Rest in peace.

About:

Dezert Eagle drops another heat filled track titled “Official” produced by E Hill.
The track hits hard with a heavy baseline and sharp snare which carries a classic vinyl feel to the sound.
Dezert takes us on a journey giving an insight of some of the things included in his lifestyle that make him an official MC.

Boastful rhymes of supplying lyricism at a 10 out of 10 level amongst real life street experiences, Official is just as the title claims.
Once again Dezert manages to deliver hard rhymes over a cutting edge Queens-bridge style beat whilst still captivating his audience with a well executed and catchy hook.

T.R.3

Video: T.R.3 – “Vices & Devices” Ft. Self Provoked & Jon Swaii | Video

Artist: T.R.3 Ft. Self Provoked & Jon Swaii

Genre: Hip Hop, Rap

Location: Atlanta, GA

Listen: https://foundation-media.ffm.to/vicesdevices

About:

Magnetic Atlanta-based rapper and artist, T.R.3 is back at it, dropping a new single and video for “Vices & Devices.” It’s the latest single is string of bangers with long-time collaborator, respected SoCal producer Ariano.

“Vices & Devices” is a true East meets West joint, with T.R.3 teaming up with Bronx’s Jon Swaii and SoCal’s Self Provoked. The three artists are kindred spirits, each harnessing a lyricism heavy with intellect and purpose far beyond their years. Aptly named, “Vices & Devices” sees the trio reflect on the power of their own vices and the inner will to control them. T.R.3 flexes his singing chops on the hook, reminiscent of his previous single, “Light Harvest.” Self Provoked dishes his verse with the effortless flow and polished rawness that have garnered him a fierce following among fans, while Jon Swaii’s delivery channels the same versatility and unfiltered passion that landed him a spot on Red Bill Music Studios’, “The Cut.”

Backed by Ariano’s stripped down production of simple drums and ethereal sounds, “Vices & Devices” is a track that draws the listener in and doesn’t let go until the final bar.

Directed by T.R.3, the video for “Vices & Devices” is evidence of the multi-faceted artist’s growth and coming into his own aesthetic. The visuals have a stripped back simplicity which allow the words to penetrate the listener’s mind without being a distraction. There’s a slight cosmic vibe to the video, almost like a reflection of what it may feel like to be caught in the high. The of the video focus falls directly on T.R.3., Self Provoked and Swaii, each of them channeling their own vices is some small physical way.

“Vices & Devices” available now on Popular Nobody.

Uncle Murda returned on New Year’s Day with his annual “Rap Up 2020” putting the year’s happenings in perspective. The New York rap veteran recaps a tumultuous 2020 by giving his thoughts on a myriad of topics including the losses of NBA icon Kobe Bryant, Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, Pop Smoke, King Von and Mo3.
“I’m a fear heavenly father but this time I’m booing you/What did Kobe, Gigi and them other passengers do to you,” he raps about the fatal January helicopter crash that killed the NBA icon, his daughter and seven others before lamenting Pop’s death. “The good die young it really wasn’t his time/him being dead, Tekashi still living is a crime.”

When the COVID-19 vaccine becomes readily available to all citizens, Murda won’t be getting in line to take it. He then questions if the virus was built in a lab and if Donald Trump’s reported positive test for the coronavirus was a hoax.

“Is it real, is it fake? I don’t know, I know shit’s sad/People dying from shit they been had/They said Trump had it but I think he was faking it/They got a vaccine now but I still ain’t taking it/We all saw that nurse who passed from that shit/Live on TV miss me with that funny shit/I don’t trust the government they chasing that fucking bag/Whole coronavirus feel like a money grab,” he raps.

Throughout the 14-minute diatribe, Murda also touches on Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting, Rowdy Rebel’s release from prison, George Floyd’s murder, Irv Gotti saying he had sex with Ashanti, Jeremih’s coronavirus battle, Jada and Will Smith’s entanglement, his beef with Casanova, why he’ll miss Donald Trump, Gucci Mane and Jeezy’s Verzuz and Funk Flex getting liposuction.

The staggering track serves as the opener for his Don’t Come Outside, Vol. 3 project, which also dropped on Friday (January 1). Murda claims this is going to be the last of his year-end “Rap Up” series. Stream the project now!
