Rihanna says she Trans Men & Women shouldn’t be used as marketing tools

Rihanna: “I don’t think it’s fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool”

“Too often I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike,” the singer wrote in response to a fan.

Rihanna‘s Fenty Beauty has been praised for its inclusivity, offering a wide variety of shades not usually found in makeup. When a fan suggested she use trans models to promote the next Fenty Beauty campaign, the pop star shared a thoughtful response.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with many gifted trans women over the years,” she wrote, “but I don’t go around doing trans castings! Just like I don’t do straight non trans women castings. I respect all women. Whether they’re trans or not is none of my business.”

She also criticized fashion and beauty brands for exploiting trans people in their campaigns. “I don’t think it’s fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool,” she wrote. “Too often I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike. There’s always just that one spot in the campaign for the token ‘we look mad diverse’ girl/guy! It’s sad!”

Russell Simmons steps down after sexual assault allegation

Russell Simmons is stepping down from his companies in the wake of an accusation of harassment and sexual assault.

Simmons, the founder of hip-hop music label Def Jam Recordings and CEO of Rush Communications, released a statement on Thursday after screenwriter Jenny Lumet accused him of forcing her to have sex with him in 1991. She detailed the encounter in a guest column published by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.

“I have been informed with great anguish of Jenny Lumet’s recollection about our night together in 1991,” Simmons said in a statement. “I know Jenny and her family and have seen her several times over the years since the evening she described. While her memory of that evening is very different from mine, it is now clear to me that her feelings of fear and intimidation are real. While I have never been violent, I have been thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades and I sincerely and humbly apologize.”

The statement continued: “This is a time of great transition. The voices of the voiceless, those who have been hurt or shamed, deserve and need to be heard. As the corridors of power inevitably make way for a new generation, I don’t want to be a distraction so I am removing myself from the businesses that I founded. The companies will now be run by a new and diverse generation of extraordinary executives who are moving the culture and consciousness forward. I will convert the studio for yogic science into a not-for-profit center of learning and healing. As for me, I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening.”

In Lumet’s column she wrote that, “maybe recalling of this incident can be helpful” to other women who have spoken out against Simmons, but realizes there’s a lot at stake in coming forward with her story.

“There is so much guilt, and so much shame,” Lumet wrote. “There is an excruciating internal reckoning. As a woman of color, I cannot express how wrenching it is to write this about a successful man of color.”

HBO announced in a statement Thursday afternoon that they were dropping Simmons from an upcoming stand-up series, “All Def Comedy,” which he produced with the premium network. The series is set to premiere December 1.

“HBO will be airing All Def Comedy as planned,” an HBO spokesperson said. “However, Russell Simmons will not appear in the new series and we will be removing his name from the show moving forward. The series is a platform for promising and upcoming comedians and we do not want to deprive them of an opportunity to showcase their talents to a national audience. We have no other projects with Russell Simmons.”

This latest accusation made by Lumet comes after a Los Angeles Times report published on November 19 that detailed allegations of sexual misconduct made against director Brett Ratner and Simmons. A woman quoted in the story said Ratner and Simmons were “in it together.”

Ratner and Simmons denied the allegations, with Simmons adding that, “abusing women in any way shape or form violates the very core of my being.”

Simmons, 60, got his start in the music industry in the early 80s managing his younger brother, Joseph “Rev. Run” Simmons’ hip-hop group, Run-D.M.C. The group is widely hailed as an early pioneer of hip hop music. Simmons co-founded Def Jam Recordings with Rick Rubin in 1984. Some of the biggest names in hip hop have at one point or another been signed to the label: Jay-Z, Public Enemy, LL Cool J and currently Iggy Azalea and Justin Bieber to name a few.

But it’s not just music that helped make Simmons a household name. He went on to create several successful clothing lines, including Phat Farm, Argyleculture and Tantris.

Under his company Rush Communications Inc., Simmons has also been heavily involved in philanthropy. In 1995, he and his brothers, Rev. Run and Danny Simmons, co-founded the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, which helps expose inner city youth to the arts. Simmons was named a Goodwill Ambassador to the UN in 2009 and has also been a strong supporter of gay rights and animal rights. In recent years, Simmons has been very vocal about his spirituality, calling himself a “Christian yogi.” In 2016, he opened a yoga studio in Los Angeles called Tantris.

Simmons joins a long list of Hollywood power players who have been accused of sexual misconduct in the last two months. Two exposés published in October that detailed movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s alleged harassment and assault against women opened the floodgates for others to come forward with their experiences. Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.

Since then, some of media’s biggest names, including Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K., Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose and Mark Halperin, have been terminated from their jobs or lost lucrative deals over similar allegations of sexual misconduct.

CNN reached out to Simmons’ representatives for comment who directed us to Simmons’ official statement.

JStar The Dreamer – If Ifs (Official Video)

The lyrically gifted J Star of rhyme and Reason dropped his new visual for the single

“If Ifs”.  Shot by Nic Conner Images, the video hilariously, reflects the lyrics perfectly!

The song is about a young man starting out in life, trying to find his way. As he is introduced to adulthood, he ends up letting the “what ifs” alter his life’s decisions regarding what he wants to do. He assumes he has all of the time in the world to right his wrongs but before long, half of his life has passed him by due to complacency. As he gets older and looks back, he realizes that he hasn’t done anything and now he has to deal with the regrets and the shoulda, coulda woulda’s.

Ray J Is Making Marks in the Technology World!

Ray J just closed a $31 millin deal to launch Raycon, his new electronic transportation brand.

Singer & TV personality, Ray J, has announced a new $31 million deal to secure the launch of his electronic transportation brand, Raycon. Ray J finalized the deal with Cowboy Wholesale, who is a leading distributor of consumer electronics based out of New York City. Little did I know, Ray J has been the CEO of his own electronics brand, Raytronics, and in 2015, it became known best for the Scoot-E-Bike. The bike is a foldable 2 wheeled electric vehicle.

In describing the everyday need of urban technology making an impact on electrical transportation, per BusinessWire, Ray J stated “The world is moving towards renewable green energy, and electric transportation is a big part of that. With the Raycon movement, we are going to make sure we are one of the first ones there.”

This partnership Ray J has with Cowboy Wholesale, is expected to be a great & profitable move. Cowboy Wholesale, per their agreement, will come with a management team that includes a board of advisers who already have great business relations with companies such as Sony, Coby Electronics, and Pepsi. As the only distributer of Raycon, Cowboy Wholesale, will be marketing products in the United States, Asia, and Europe.

I personally want to give Ray J a virtual hive five for consistently working & upgrading his brand to be more than just as an entertainer. We actually are seeing a different layer to Ray J instead of the used to be drama filled singer/entertainer & I truly am learning to respect him for the man that he is, Willie Norwood Jr.

To check out the interview Ray J did with Cheddar TV about the $31 million deal click here.

The official product launch will be in mid to late November 2017 & available for purchase at rayconglobal.com

TRAPP Classic “CUPREME” Listening Session

Afternoon Loves,

I was recently invited to attend a Private Listening Session for the releasing of “Trapp Classic”; A production from World Famous DJ- DJ Brad.

DJ Brad is an International celebrity DJ and Producer. He has been in the entertainment industry for several years. He, along with artist Cupreme teamed up to bring us Trapp Classic.

Trapp Classic highlights the artist “Cupreme”. His inspiration behind the album is his experiences grinding and “trapping” to make it to where he is today. Cupreme has built his brand New Money Productions from the ground up. He was humble about his success and he has only been rapping professionally for 2 years.

My favorite songs includes: “Out Da Dow”, “I Just Wanna”, and “Trenches”. I would compare Cupremes music to the 90s era of Project Pat, and  8 Ball & MJ-G. You could assume from listening to his music that he has been through alot of struggle to get to his platform of success.

This event was held at Mass Appeal Boutique; A local Contemporary Men’s Clothing and Sneaker boutique. Mass Appeal is a family owned business, and the owner Michelle which everyone calls ‘Auntie’  is very detailed and has excellent customer service.

Mass Appeal is a host for many meet and greets featuring famous names such as Dae-Dae, K-Camp, Stevie-J, Trae the Truth, DJ Luke Nasty and many more. The store is big on having people play on the “Kicks Master”; a game in which you are timed to try and win a pair of fresh kicks. It’s very entertaining to watch the machine defeat people as they continue to play over and over. Only a select few have won.

Check out Mass Appeal in store at 2280 Chesire Bridge Rd. Atlanta, GA 30324. Also follow them on Instagram @MassAppealATL.
