The Showcase!!!

So.. had the chance to bless my lovely appearance at a listening party for one of Cleveland’s hottest artists on the COME UP!!

The management group, Bandz Gang Management, threw a nice listening party for up n coming Cleveland artist, Artinka Teaira, appriopiately called “The Showcase”.

Once I got there I was instantly excited to see that the parking lot was filled with people who was there for the listening party too!

While waiting for the main event I was very entertained by all the artists who performed. My only disappointment was noticing how a couple of the performers did not remember the words to their own song…I am very particular about “presentation”… for your first impression will always be remembered & will determine if you gained a new fan, but with good practice & management I know they can do well for I did find myself vibing to their music.

Now….once Artinka Teaira finally graced the stage, she truly turned the place up! Artinka has a style that can offer variety for she can sing and rap AND have subject matter that me and my momma can relate to. I even noticed how majority of the females already knew the words to her songs and felt what she was saying. I even found myself bopping my head left and right to her music LOL

From when she first entered the stage, Artinka, gave me the feeling that she is a cool person, and she did prove to be as such when I introduced myself to her! When I say I had a great time??? I truly did! Any time I can enjoy some good music with people whose energy was so cool…I truly appreciate it!

Make sure to follow Artinka Teaira & the other performers:

Travis Scott “AstroWorld” Review

Last Friday, Travis Scott dropped his much anticipated third album, “Astroworld” and here is my review!!! Get ready…Set….GOOOOO!!!

Hey fam! You guys just do not know how thirsty I was to get to my desk at work, put my earbuds in, and rock out to Travis Scott’s new album “Astroworld”. The album which has 17 tracks does not disappoint at all! Like, it is one of those albums you can listen to from the beginning to the end!

Now it’s time for me to dissect the album for you….starting with the first track “Stargazing” which comes in with a heavy bass line & your typical Travis Scott sound. On this track, I feel like he is prepping you for the lists of unknown surprises that comes with this album i.e. no mentions of any artists being featured on the track listing. But, while listening to this track the beat changes so fast that you will think you’re on track 2 already.

Track 2 is when the first surprise comes in…..”Carousel” The Big Tuck sample enters in quietly but gets louder! Then you hear a feature with Frank Ocean!!!! Like where in the hell has this dude been???

Track 3 “Sicko Mode” slides in with a Drake feature!!!!! In my head I’m just thinking to myself like Drake stays winnning! I do get a little mad how the beat switched so fast after Drake said like 1 bar! But hey…the album still held my attention anticipating for more! One thing I will mention is that this album felt as if it was extra songs within the songs. For, after Travis finish his part, the beat kicks back up again with Drake back on track going IN!!

Track 4 “R.I.P. Screw” is a nice screwed up track paying homage to the OG from Houston, TX who started the chopped & screwed up movement, and included a feature from Swae Lee. Their is one part in the song that I think Travis chopped & my goofy self thought maybe productions made a little error LOL

Track 5 “Stop Trying To Be God” is one of FAVORITE tracks and do you know why??? The features on this track include Cleveland’s own Kid Cudi, James Blake, and the LIVING LEGEND STEVIE WONDER!!!!! I love the hook “Stop trying to be God…thats not who you are” something I know every person can relate to. I even seen on Instagram, Akron native Lebraun James working out to this song. I see Travis just dropped a video to this just 2 days ago….check it out!

Track 6 comes in smoothly with a Juice WRLD feature called “No Bystanders”. Once the beat fully drops you will hear a Three Six Mafia sample which got me hyped of course!

Track 7 “Skeletons” which has features including Tame Impala, The Weeknd, and my favorite Pharrell. I admit this track is not one of my favorites off this album, but Travis tried to get a little deep & emotional on this song which can be truly felt when the next track comes on.

Track 8 “Wake Up” is literally beautiful song! Of course, he must be talking about his feelings about Kylie Jenner, who is the mother of his daughter, Stormi Webster. This song is so sweet that I can already imagine what the video should look like. I can imagine Travis & Kylie laid up in bed tastefully naked with the covers helping to hide certain parts of their body while they play with each other in a loving & affectionate manner.

Track 9 “5% Tint” has a sample from The Goodie Mob’s classic “Cell Therapy” which got me very excited for I doubt this new generation has no idea who The Goodie Mob is!

Track 10 “NC-17” comes in with my mind asking the question….Are you ready to turn up?? Me as the listener I respond “HELL FUCK YEA!!!” LOL. This song has 21 Savage featured on it talking about the thotties of course! I can picture this track being played at all your local strip clubs.

Track 11 “Astrothunder” is a cool track to vibe out too..nothing that’s exciting, I call these album fillers.

Track 12 “Yosemite” has NAV & Gunna featured on this song. I am trying to tell you…if this album do not have you sold already then I don’t know what else to tell you! This track comes in with a hard beat to vibe to, and stays right on flow with the album theme.

Track 13 “Can’t Say” has a Don Toliver featured on this hot track. Another nice vibed out track getting you prepped to the closing of this album or what you may think is getting close to the end.

Track 14 “Who? What?” has Take Off & Quavo from my favorite and Grammy nominated group The Migos featured on this track. Mind you, we really do not hear from Take Off alot so I can admit that I was shocked to hear him! I had to listen twice just to make sure it was not Offset!

Track 15 “Butterfly Effect” which is the first single Travis dropped from off this album about a year ago and is currently on your local radio stations play list.

Track 16 “Houstonfornication” a song talking about how if and when he needs a vacation, best believe you can find him in his city.

Track 17 “Coffee Bean” the last track where Travis is reflecting on how it is to be a boyfriend to Kylie Jenner, and he is not saying that its terrible, no, he stating how he is not what “others” expected her to be with. He said that he calls himself “Mr. Bad News” when honestly…I think he actually is one of the best people to come into her life and vice versa.

Overall, it is still too early for me to declare if this album is a classic. I will say that this album will be one of my favorite albums to play from the beginning to the end with no interruptions. “Astroworld” reminds me of Memphis Bleek album “Coming Of Age”…it is not listed as a classic to the masses, but to those who truly loved the Roc-A-Fella Label, it is a classic! I heard that Travis stated that this album is supposed to be a part of a trilogy, and was actually supposed to been released prior to his second album “Rodeo”. While I did enjoy his second album, with “Astroworld” you can really hear his growth and how he is evolving has an artist as well as a producer. Great album Travis Scott!!!

Go Back to Africa!!!

received_3144196469197008

As early as 1820, Black Americans journeyed to the African continent via the American Colonization Society (ACS), which founded the Republic of Liberia in West Africa.

By 1880, the masses of poor Blacks realized America was determined to keep them at the bottom of society. They sought freedom and opportunity in Africa.

received_3144197212530267

Consequently, wealthy Blacks and white liberals fought to prevent oppressed Black people from voluntarily returning to Africa.

Black emigration died down until Marcus Garvey introduced African Zionism and Pan-Africanism in the beginning of the 20th century, establishing successful trade routes within the African diaspora.

received_3144197902530198

Garvey established the Universal Negro Improvement Association, the Black Star Line, and the Negro Factories Corporation to encourage Black economic independence worldwide.

He was not only motivated by the idea of racial separation, but by Black nationalism, which inspired later movements like the Nation of Islam.

The Symptoms of Slavery …

received_3207178562898798

The field of study called epigenetics explains that our DNA contains memories passed down from previous generations. Researchers have conducted massive studies that identify how trauma has been passed down to descendants of Jewish holocaust survivors.

received_3207179646232023

Scholars are using the same approach to understand how slavery still physically affects Black people today.
For 400 years, our ancestors worked up to 18 hours per day on little to no food. They burned around 4,000-5,000 calories.
We’ve only had several decades to adjust to a less active lifestyle, which may contribute to the high rates of obesity Black people experience today.

received_3207180389565282

Many Black people are born into PTSD and depression as part of the legacy of rape and beatings that were inherent in slavery and Black life. We’ve inherited that trauma, y’all.
Our bodies remember, and respond to it with elevated stress hormones, impacting our heart health.
Ancestral memory is real. Memories of suffering and survival are embedded within us.

received_3207181956231792

It’s a gift and a curse: we know the pain we’ve experienced, and we know the strength of our resilience. From this, we can remember to take care of ourselves, our minds, and each other.

Vibe Fest Day 1 Recap

Can I be honest with you? The idea of being in a crowd full of people gives me the coldest case of the sweats. Now I don’t know if that’s just the introverted anxiety filled mess that I am, or because as of late the world has gotten just a little bit crazier, but I’ve learned to hide it well for you, our readers.  Just hours before I received news that I’d be covering day 1 of Vibe Fest, a local video shoot got shot up, so you know I was on high alert as I walked into the Symposium on Friday night. Now, maybe my hopes were a little high because of the incredible line up of talent, but as I sat waiting for the show to start I felt my concern quickly shift from my safety to my sanity. The first thing that I noticed was that audio was less than desirable. I’ve never been to a show at the symposium, and I can promise that if I have any say, I won’t go to one in the future for this reason. While that may not be the direct fault of the Foolish Artist team, I do believe that Is their responsibility to put the artists that they’re working with in the best possible position to flourish. I’m sure there are many factors that came into play when choosing this venue, and maybe things got switched last minute since the flyers going around Instagram did say Phantasy Nightclub, which wasn’t the case, but this issue alone made it hard to enjoy any of the artists fully. That leads to my next issue, the artists themselves. As the night went on I learned that a large portion of the performers had pulled out of the show. While I know that things in life happen, it was very disappointing to see that so many, upwards of 15, weren’t going to perform. To those that didn’t perform for any reason other than a family emergency, I offer a small piece of advice. Every opportunity to show your craft should be valued, if for no reason other than to network. You never know where these performances can lead to, what collaborations or relationships can be built. Every space presented to show your talent should be revered, and I hope in the future you look at it as such. As for the artists that did show up and performed, you are to be applauded. Cleveland is a city full of talent, and whoever oversaw selecting this talent did an amazing job. The variety in artists was amazing, from Pat W. doing a spoken word piece and leaving it all on the stage to Pandora letting you guys know that there’s no games to be played out here and a little bit of everything in between. Day 1 was a day to learn from, but I hope that the lessons learned made for an even better day 2, and a greater Vibe Fest in the future.IMG_7494

Manhunt underway for suspect in fatal stabbing on BART platform in Oakland

A manhunt is underway for a suspect accused of fatally stabbing an 18-year-old woman and wounding her sister as they stepped off a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train in Oakland, California, late Sunday. #JohnLeeCowell, 27, was identified by police as the lone suspect Monday after authorities reviewed footage from surveillance cameras at the scene.

IMG_20180723_181745_673

#BART Police Chief Carlos Rojas said police have not yet determined a motive for attacking, calling it “vicious” and “unprovoked.” He said there was no evidence suggesting the attack was racially motivated, but investigators haven’t ruled it out, the Associated Press reports.

Police said the suspect was riding in the same car as the victims Sunday and attacked them soon after they exited onto the MacArthur platform. Investigators have recovered evidence at the scene.

Cowell, who is white, stands 5 foot, 8 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds, police said. His hair was described as short and dark and he wears a cropped beard and mustache. Authorities said Cowell should be considered dangerous and urged the public to call police if they see him.

Rojas called Cowell a “violent felon” who is currently on parole. He said surveillance video showed Cowell fleeing the scene and changing his clothes in a nearby parking lot. “In my close to 30 years experience, [it was] probably one of the most vicious attacks I have seen,” Rojas said, #CBSSanFrancisco reports

Ansar Mohammed, the father of the victims, rushed to the station Sunday evening when he got word of the attack. “I want justice for my daughter. I work at Highland Hospital and I see this every single day,” he said, #CBS San Francisco reports. “I never imagined myself going through nothing like this. That’s my baby girl up there.”

The woman killed was identified as 18-year-old #NiaWilson. Police said she died at the scene. They said her sister Latifa was rushed to a nearby hospital.

“He stabbed my daughter repeatedly,” Muhammed said with tears streaming down his cheeks. “This is a parent’s worst nightmare.”

Mayor #LibbySchaaf offered her condolences to the victims on Monday.

“The senseless and violent stabbing of two young women on a BART train platform last night has shaken our community,” Schaaf said in a statement. “Every parent who saw the father of Nia Wilson grieve for his daughter is heartbroken by this horrific act.”

R. Kelly confesses, “I Admit”

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the past 20yrs, you’ve heard several allegations being brought up against Robert Kelly aka R. Kelly.

Recent allegations sparked the #MuteRKelly movement which caused his music to be removed from the Spotify streaming service.

There are a few older interviews floating around that shed some light on the allegations of him being an alleged pedophile, amongst other things.

R. Kelly has been pretty silent lately with exception of him touring.

That all changed when R. Kelly dropped a confession track in the middle of the night. On the track he Anita to ALOT of things some which he says should be none of our business, but one of his confessions that stands out is him admitting to being a broke legend who doesn’t own the rights to any of his music.

Listen to the track and comment your thoughts:

Say Good Bye To The Pink Trap House

I know you guys remember the Pink Trap House rapper 2 Chainz introduced us to in 2017….well say your good byes because the house will be demolished soon!

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Per Atlanta News, the attention grabber house will be demolished in the very soon! Atlanta-based rapper 2 Chainz leased an unremarkable home at 1530 Howell Mill Road in west Midtown and dumped a coat of paint on it that resembled Pepto Bismol. He etched the word “TRAP” in black lettering and parked a wide-body classic sedan in front of it. Even the stove that also sat in the front of the house was painted pink too.

All of this was to promote his 2017 album, “Pretty Girls Like Trap Music.” The record was a success, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually becoming certified gold. Fans flocked to the Pink Trap House in droves just to take pics at this pink house, something that nobody has ever done to promote an album. Unfortunately, soon the house will be nothing but a memory.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

To Rohrig and Cartel Properties, the owners of the home, the 0.17 acres of dirt that the home sits on is more valuable than the house. According to Fulton County property records, the land at the address is valued at $237,600 while the house is valued at $194,000.

The house is still standing, its not painted pink anymore, its now all white. The home is currently empty and basically looking like the rest of the houses on that street. I can bet that without the address of the Pink Trap House, no one would know which house it is as per one tweet made by a fan:

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

There’s a Cartel Properties sign stuck in the window that says the home is available, but don’t be fooled. The one-time Pink Trap House is not for sale.
Rohrig says he has no timetable for demolishing it. Built in 1940, the house has five rooms and a total of 899 square feet of residential space. It also features a full basement and a covered porch.

As a fan of 2 Chainz, I totally applaud what he did with the house while he had it! I read of people using the house to hold exercise classes, performed free HIV tests, even other local artists used the house as a background for their own music video, and a place for tourists.

MegaDon Concert At The Grog Shop

MegaDon got blessed to open up for one of my favorite artists, Project Pat, at the Grog Shop in Cleveland Hts, OH!!

I wrote a review for Cleveland, Ohio artist MegaDon a while back for his Edgewater Ep, so when he told the station about an upcoming show for which he would be opening up for Project Pat, I totally could not pass up the oppertunity!

The concert was held at the legendary Grog Shop in the historic Coventry Village area located in the suburb of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Since this was my very first time attending a show at the Grog Shop, I was very excited, and could not wait to turn up!

Prior to MegaDon coming to the stage, there was a group of young men who had “RIP XXX” on they shirts. A very cool dance group, they literally held the crowd’s attention…peep the video below!

After the artists with the “RIP XXX” left the stage, it was time for MegaDon to enter! I totally felt his energy mixed with a little bit of excitement and probably a little bit of nervousness, with an overall stage presence that demanded attention. Some of the songs MegaDon performed were from the Edgewater Ep. You could tell the crowd was feeling it by the wave of hands in the air vibing to the music.

Once his set was over, MegaDon shouted out his family who came to support, 216 The Beat radio station, Cream, the station owner and even me, Mz. Slim Goody! I admit it felt good to finally support one of the artists who supports the station & puts on for my City of Cleveland!!!

For more of MegaDon’s performance check out the video below!

FYI! Excuse my so called video editing LMAO

$am Supreme The Miss:Tape Album Release Party

$am Supreme The MISS:Tape Album Release Party

If you can make it in Cleveland, you can make it anywhere. I remember hearing that phrase as a kid and not understanding the meaning of it. In a city where everybody has a song to sing and a chip on their shoulder, it seems almost impossible to find genuine comradery. That’s the first thing I thought as I sat in the back corner of The Winchester Music Tavern, observing the crowd before approaching the tiny superstar that is $am Supreme. I could tell from her smile and hand shake that she had something to say, a message to tell. As the showcase started, and she introduced the first act, there was a child like glee in her voice. From my experiences, a lot of artist, especially new artists don’t want to admit their fandom for a fellow artist. So, it was a relief to see how every artist cheered on the next. Each had a relationship that you could tell ran deep. Famyne Red led the pack, giving an energetic performance that left me searching for him on Instagram to make sure I could get more later. Next up was MellowXAckt, performing songs of his latest release, The Wind EP. Tribe Untitled, a local group consisting of 6 over the top lyricists that had more energy that I think I’ve been able to muster up in years.

IMG_7423

Finally, it was time for the reason we all came together, Sam supreme herself. From the first song on her set list, the rage was real. Her producer, Dijital, soon graced the stage, keeping the energy in the building at a constant high. Heading banging and dancing across the stage playful, Sam proved to be a true performer, not missing a beat. On more intimate tracks, she sat, speaking her truths so profoundly, it couldn’t be denied. You would’ve expected on a night as big as this for an artist to want the spotlight to themselves, but that wasn’t the case at all. At one point she even invited someone from the crowd to freestyle. If tonight is any look into the future, I must say that is it bright for the female powerhouse that is $am Supreme. Spirits tell all, and hers speaks of a humility and hunger that is unmatched. The MISS:tape is available on all digital platforms.
